The Ordinary Retinol 0.5% in Squalane

The Ordinary Retinol 0.5% in Squalane is the middle strength in the brand's retinol range, a step up from 0.2% and intended for skin that has already got used to a lower concentration. It is a water-free serum: 0.5% pure retinol carried in squalane, with no water, no alcohol and no fragrance.

Retinol is a cosmetic form of vitamin A used over time to work on the appearance of fine lines and on uneven skin texture and tone. The squalane base is doing real work in this formula, adding lightweight moisture that helps offset the dryness a retinol at this strength can bring.

How to use: in the evening only. Apply a few drops to dry skin after water-based serums and before creams, avoiding the eye and lip area. Start two or three nights a week and build up as tolerated. Do not layer it in the same routine as direct acids or other strong retinoids. Wear sunscreen every morning while using it.
